Things to Do Near Rosharon, TX: A Local Guide

One of the best-kept secrets about living at The Bend RV Park in Rosharon is just how much there is to do nearby. Rosharon sits at the crossroads of several major Texas destinations — Houston to the north, Galveston to the southeast, and the wide-open spaces of Brazoria County all around. You are never more than 45 minutes from something worth doing.

Here is a local guide to the best activities, attractions, and dining options within easy reach of our park.

You do not have to go far for your first activity — our stocked pond is right here on the property. Residents fish from the bank year-round, and it is a great way to spend a quiet morning or evening without leaving the park. Bring your own gear and a Texas fishing license.

About 25 miles southeast of Rosharon, the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most underrated natural areas in Texas. The refuge protects over 44,000 acres of coastal prairie, wetlands, and freshwater ponds along the Gulf Coast.

What to do there:

• Birdwatching — the refuge hosts hundreds of species, including migratory shorebirds and waterfowl
• Wildlife photography — alligators, deer, and roseate spoonbills are common sightings
• Hiking and walking trails
• Fishing in designated areas

Admission is free. The refuge is open year-round, though the best birdwatching is during fall and spring migration.

One of the most popular state parks in Texas, Brazos Bend is about 20 miles northwest of Rosharon near Needville. The park sits along the Brazos River and is famous for its alligator population — you will almost certainly see several on any visit.

• 37 miles of hiking and biking trails
• George Observatory (open on weekends)
• Fishing in Elm Lake and 40-Acre Lake
• Camping (if you want a change of scenery from the RV park)

Brazos Bend is a Texas Parks and Wildlife gem that most Houstonians overlook. For residents of The Bend, it is practically a backyard park.

About 50 miles southeast of Rosharon, Galveston is one of Texas's most beloved destinations. The drive down Highway 288 to I-45 takes about 45–55 minutes from our park.

Things to do in Galveston:

• Seawall Boulevard and the Gulf beaches
• Moody Gardens (aquarium, rainforest pyramid, and more)
• The Historic Strand District for shopping and dining
• Schlitterbahn Galveston (water park, seasonal)
• Galveston Island State Park
• Ferry rides to Bolivar Peninsula

Galveston is a great day trip destination any time of year, though spring and fall offer the most comfortable weather for beach activities.

Living 30 miles south of Houston means you have access to one of the largest and most diverse cities in the United States — without paying Houston prices to live there.

The Houston Museum District is home to 19 museums within a 1.5-mile radius, many of which are free or low-cost:

• Houston Museum of Natural Science — world-class exhibits on dinosaurs, gems, and space
• Houston Zoo — one of the most visited zoos in the country
• Children's Museum Houston — excellent for families with young kids
• Museum of Fine Arts Houston — impressive permanent collection and rotating exhibitions
• Space Center Houston — NASA's official visitor center, about 30 miles east of the park

Sports fans are well-positioned at The Bend. NRG Stadium (Houston Texans NFL, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo) and Toyota Center (Houston Rockets NBA) are both about 35 minutes north on Highway 288.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in late February and March is one of the largest events in the world and a Texas tradition worth experiencing at least once.

Hermann Park is a 445-acre urban park adjacent to the Museum District. It features the Houston Garden Center, a Japanese garden, paddleboat rentals, and the Hermann Park Railroad. Buffalo Bayou Park, closer to downtown, offers 160 acres of trails, kayak rentals, and stunning views of the Houston skyline.

Rosharon itself is a small community, but Alvin and Pearland — both within 15–20 minutes — offer a wide range of dining options.
