Living in Brazoria County: What RV Residents Need to Know

Brazoria County doesn't get the attention of Harris or Fort Bend County, but for working people who need affordable housing within reach of Houston's industrial corridor, it's one of the best-kept secrets in Southeast Texas.

Here's what RV residents — and anyone considering a move to the area — should know about living in Brazoria County.

Where Is Brazoria County?

Brazoria County sits directly south of Harris County (Houston) along the Gulf Coast. It stretches from the Houston suburbs down to the Gulf of Mexico, covering communities like:

  • Pearland — The county's largest city, with full suburban amenities
  • Alvin — A mid-sized city with a small-town feel
  • Angleton — The county seat, with government services and a historic downtown
  • Lake Jackson / Clute / Freeport — The industrial hub of the county, home to major chemical and petrochemical plants
  • Rosharon — A rural community in the northern part of the county, close to the Harris County line

The Bend RV Park is located in Rosharon, which puts residents in an ideal position: rural quiet with easy access to both Houston and the county's industrial centers.

Cost of Living

Brazoria County is significantly more affordable than Harris County for most everyday expenses:

Housing — Even traditional housing in Brazoria County runs cheaper than comparable options in Houston or Pearland. RV living at The Bend starts at $475/month, which is exceptional value for the area.

Groceries and fuel — Prices are comparable to the broader Houston metro. Pearland and Alvin have full grocery options (HEB, Walmart, Kroger) within a short drive.

Property taxes — Brazoria County property taxes are lower than Harris County, which matters if you're considering buying land or a home in the future.

Getting Around

Most of Brazoria County requires a vehicle — this is rural Texas, and public transit is minimal outside of Pearland.

From Rosharon, key drive times include:

  • Pearland: ~20 minutes north on Highway 288
  • Houston Medical Center: ~35 minutes
  • Downtown Houston: ~40 minutes
  • Freeport / Lake Jackson plants: ~45 minutes south
  • Texas City / La Marque: ~40 minutes southeast via Highway 6

For shift workers, the lack of traffic on Highway 288 south of Pearland is a genuine advantage. You're not fighting the same congestion that workers commuting from inside Houston deal with.

Schools

If you have school-age children, Brazoria County has several school districts worth knowing:

Alvin ISD — Covers Rosharon and much of northern Brazoria County. Iowa Colony, a community within Alvin ISD, has seen significant growth and investment in its schools. Alvin ISD is generally well-regarded for its career and technical education programs.

Pearland ISD — Covers Pearland and is consistently rated among the stronger districts in the Houston metro.

Brazosport ISD — Serves the Lake Jackson / Freeport area and has strong ties to the petrochemical industry, including technical training programs.

Healthcare

Brazoria County has grown its healthcare infrastructure significantly in recent years:

  • HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland — Full-service hospital in Pearland
  • UTMB Health Angleton — Regional hospital in the county seat
  • Multiple urgent care clinics in Pearland and Alvin

For major procedures or specialized care, Houston's Texas Medical Center is accessible within 35–40 minutes from Rosharon.

Things to Do

Brazoria County has more outdoor recreation than most people expect:

Brazos Bend State Park — One of the best state parks in Texas, located about 20 minutes from Rosharon. Hiking, wildlife viewing (including alligators), fishing, and stargazing at the George Observatory.

Surfside Beach — About an hour south, this Gulf Coast beach is popular with families and anglers.

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge — Excellent birding and wildlife photography, especially during migratory seasons.

Lake Jackson Wilderness Park — A smaller nature preserve with trails and creek access.

Why Rosharon Specifically?

Rosharon sits at a geographic sweet spot in Brazoria County. It's close enough to Pearland for shopping and services, far enough from Houston to avoid urban density and cost, and positioned well for workers commuting to plants in multiple directions.

The Bend RV Park takes advantage of that location — offering a quiet, residential environment with the access that working people actually need.
